Lover, sit still and wait;
Whom thou desirest will come.
Being alone is not lonely.
And how wilt thou receive Him if thou art not alone?
Waiting is for preparing;
Watching with longing is sweet;
And when He comes all this will end
And thou thyself will be lost in love.
Lesson
It is necessary to open the deeper side of our nature by patience, humility and obedience before we can take spiritual teaching. That is why the great sages were so insistent in their discipline. Those who cannot bear reprimand show that they are shallow and empty. Discipleship is a very sacred thing and it cannot be given to one who is not fully prepared for it.
Prayer
I lift my heart to You, All-pervading One, who are the giver of all strength and blessing.
Free it from pride, rebellion and all unworthy thoughts and feelings,
That I may realize that You are the Source of my existence;
That from You comes all my joy and sorrow.
May I take humbly whatever You send, whether it be pain or pleasure,
And place my unfaltering trust in You.
